Engineering Opportunities

It is a fantastic time for engineers to live and work to Australia. The demand spans the country, with a mining and construction boom placing drain on local engineers. Engineering jobs range from positions within capital cities, such as Perth and Brisbane to "fly-in-fly-out” remote positions.  The key engineering disciplines in demand are Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Environmental, Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing and Mining. There are three key visa options for engineers wanting to live and work in Australia.

Skilled Migration
Many engineers qualify to migrate on a skilled visa allowing permanent residency, due to being listed on the “Migration Occupation Demand List”. Even recent graduates with 12 months post-degree experience may be eligible. Most states of Australia offer sponsorship if you do not reach the score for independent migration.

Employer Sponsorship
Australian employers can sponsor engineers on a provisional visa for up to four years. This visa (a 457) is processed within weeks, allowing a quick entry to Australia. To qualify, the sponsor must obtain approval and you must have work experience relevant to the offered job. There is no age limit and you do not have to have a degree. After two years, you may be eligible for the Employer Nominated Scheme (ENS), a permanent residency visa.

S
killed (Recognised Graduate) Visa
There is a new visa specifically for engineering graduates from designated universities. This Skilled (Recognised Graduate) visa allows graduates of all nationalities to live and work in Australia for up to 18 months. If you gain 12 months relevant work experience you may be eligible for a skilled visa. Alternatively, you can seek out an employer to sponsor you. To be eligible for this visa, you must be:

  • Under 31 years of age;
  • Have competent English (sit an IELTS test or have an eligible exemption);
  • Have graduated with a Bachelor, Masters, Doctoral or Post Graduate Diploma in Engineering;
  • Completed this course of study at a designated university and
  • Completed your course in the past two years.
